 2018 Preview 


       Benjamin Russell completed the 2017 season with a 7-4 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region three, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Benjamin Russell's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Saraland by a score of 35-7.

       Since 2010, Benjamin Russell has gone a combined 61-34. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 6A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Benjamin Russell has managed to compile a record of 190-98. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 6A and 53rd in the AHSAA.




       The Wildcats will be under the direction of new head football coach Kevin Smith as they enter the 2018 season.

       The Benjamin Russell Wildcats will play in Class 6A region three during the 2018 season.

       Region three will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. The Wildcats will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region three this season. They have qualified for the playoffs every year since 2010 and are hopeful to continue that streak in 2018.

       The Wildcats open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Beauregard on Friday, August 24 at Sportsplex. Last year the Beauregard Hornets finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 5A region four. The Hornets lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to St. Pauls by a score of 52-20.

       Benjamin Russell and Beauregard have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 2-4-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2017 with Beauregard winning by a score of 27-7.

Luverne 'Toad' Wise was the first female football player in Alabama and may have been the first in the country. She was a kicker for the Escambia County Blue Devils in 1939-40.
